Be Kind

Steve WeldonBlog

Last Wednesday to celebrate Sharon’s last day of teaching Preschool this school year, we got wild and went to Sonic for ice cream. After sitting in line at the drive-thru, when it came time to pay, we were told that the car in front of us had already taken care of the bill. It caused us to smile and thank our Father for His wonderful goodness to us. Be kind.

Last Friday I had calculated that I would beat the approaching storm, but the rain came down in buckets for my last three miles. As I was sitting drenched on my bicycle waiting for the light to change at Andover Road and 21 Street, I heard someone yell my name and it was a Hopester in their pick-up, who despite getting soaked, offered me a ride home. Being only a mile away I smiled and declined, at which time they told me to be careful as hail was on the way. It made me happy to know someone was watching out for me. Be kind.

Today (Sunday) at Hope after teaching a Baptism Class, a fairly new Hopester took the time to express how thankful he was for this Body of Believers. He spoke of how we were so welcoming and genuine. It made feel grateful to be part of Hope. Be kind.

This (Sunday) afternoon, being the weather was so nice, I decided to take a bicycle ride and on my way home at Greenwich and 13th Street, another Hopester in a pick-up truck, rolled down their window and said, “Hi Pastor Steve, it’s a beautiful day for a ride.” Though it was a simple thing once again it was very encouraging. Be kind.

Just as God our Father is exceedingly kind to us in so many ways, which was supremely demonstrated to us by way of Jesus, let us also learn to be kind to others. Make it habit to offer a smile, hold open a door, offer a word of encouragement, buy a cup of coffee, spend time in listening, or in whatever opportunities are presented. Loving kindness goes a very long way in a world which is too often too dark and too self-absorbed.

“And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus, in order that in the coming ages he might show the incomparable riches of his grace, expressed in his kindness to us in Christ Jesus.” Ephesians 2:6-7

“But love your enemies, do good to them, and lend to them without expecting to get anything back. Then your reward will be great, and you will be children of the Most High, because he is kind to the ungrateful and wicked.” Luke 6:35

“Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.” Colossians 3:12
