Jesus Can Handle Your Mess

A few weeks ago, right in the middle of worship, a Hopester in front of me spilled her big cup of coffee. When she realized it, she looked around at the rest of us somewhat embarrassed and made a comment about what a mess she had made. I quickly replied, “When building this barn, we picked coffee-colored carpet on purpose! We can handle the mess!” It was at that moment that a Hopester showed up with a bunch of napkins and a towel, and the coffee mess was no more!

Have you ever made a big mess? Did you know what to do and where to go when it happened?

Here at Hope, we understand that at one point or another, we have all found ourselves in a mess. Because of that, we want to make this a safe and welcoming place for people to bring their messes and find healing. We want to point people to Jesus, help them discover they are loved, and then journey together as Jesus cleans up our messes!

You might be a little skeptical. You might think of Jesus, think of church, and think to yourself, “That sounds nice, but you haven’t seen my mess, I doubt I’d be welcomed!” Doubt is a natural part of the faith journey, but it doesn’t need to be a paralyzing part of your journey. Way too many people doubt that God could love them because of their messy life, or they doubt that a church could welcome them because of their mess, or maybe they just doubt that God could exist because of the mess that occurs in our world. If you are someone who struggles with doubt, I’d encourage you to join us this coming Sunday.

This coming Sunday is Easter, and we will be talking about how Jesus came to save a messy world and how He can handle our doubts. I hope you’ll be able to join us for one of our services (9 am & 10:45 am), and we’d love if you’d consider inviting someone to join you!

Peace,
Nick
