Hotdog

Steve WeldonBlog

Dear Hopesters,

I’m not sure exactly how it happened, but Sharon and I, now on occasion, eat lunch at Sam’s Club. Maybe it’s because we’re getting older and don’t really care all that much if some people might not think we’re cool? Maybe it’s because, on most occasions, we have always been pretty thrifty in eating out? Maybe it because it saves time?

But, most likely, it’s because they have these really good, all beef, extra-large and cheap hotdogs. Hey, together we can eat lunch for under $4.00! Now that’s a pretty thrifty and tasty lunch for not much cash.

So, anyway there we were, Sharon had just ordered our super thrifty and tasty lunch special when I overhead the cashier say something which stuck with me. She said, “It will be ready for you on the other side.” I knew she was talking about hotdogs but I immediately starting thinking about Heavenly and forever things. I started pondering what will be waiting for us as Followers of Jesus on the other side. Here’s a few rambling thoughts. (There are many more. Maybe you can send me your thoughts to behemoth@hopecc.net?)

Clarity. — As Richard Long asked me not too long before he went to meet Jesus, “Do you know what the first thing I’m going to say when I get to Heaven?” I said, “Tell me.” He said, “Of course!”

I love that! In 1 Corinthians13:12 we are told, “For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.” Now, because of sin, which has clouded and put everything out-of- whack, we really only see as if in a fog. We really only understand partially because we are so limited by time, space, limited knowledge, and our earth bound perspective and sin-tainted brains. In Heaven: Clarity will be waiting for us on the other side.

Relationships. — We will for the first time and forever experience perfect relationships. Perfect relationships with God, each, and ourselves. Now, because of sin, every relationship we have is tainted and limited. Now, our self and fears, get in the way. Now, we all put up some fences to guard and masks of self-protection. But then, we will be perfectly known, perfectly loved, and perfectly at Home.

Consider this from 1 John 3:2, “Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when Christ appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is.” In Heaven: Perfect relationships will be waiting for us on the other side.

Beauty. — The most beautiful face you have ever seen, the upmost astonishing sunset you have ever experienced, and the greatest musical score you have ever heard will all pale when we see Jesus face-to-face. In Heaven: Jesus will be waiting for us on the other side.

Peace,
steve
