Presently I am very slowly wading through the book Pensees which is a collection of fragments on theology and philosophy written by the 17th-century philosopher and mathematician Blaise Pascal. For me, it’s one of those books which is kind of a pain to read. Much of it is way over my head, but I press on in looking for those comprehensible nuggets which will inspire and draw me closer to Jesus and which I can also possibly pass on to others. Often times you just gotta put your hand to the plow and do the hard work to uncover the good stuff in order to mature in your faith.

While reading, I came across this quote, “Would God have made the world to damn it?” The answer is…? No! The Good News in John 3:16 is, “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” And we are also told in 1 Peter 1:19b-21, “…the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect. He was chosen before the creation of the world, but was revealed in these last times for your sake. Through him you believe in God, who raised him from the dead and glorified him, and so your faith and hope are in God.” Check it out, even before God created the world He had our salvation in mind, He had us in mind. What an amazing and glorious truth.

But, the thing is, this amazing truth is unknown to many. In fact, it seems as if more and more around us are unaware of this amazing love and saving provision of God. Recently, I along with others, was asked by a Hopester who serves with Epiphany Ministries, to write a note to incarcerated girls encouraging them by letting them know they are loved. This is what I wrote.

“I don’t know you… I don’t know where you’ve been… what you’ve seen or heard… or pretend to understand what you have been through in your life. But, I have been around a long time, I’ve known a lot of people from all walks of life, I’ve travelled the world, I’ve read a lot of books, and I’ve walked with many people in pain. I don’t know you at all… but, I do know this, regardless of how others feel about you and regardless of how you might feel about yourself, God the Father is wildly in love with you! How do I know? Because of His one and only Son, Jesus. Only the perfect and forever love of God can even begin to help explain Jesus dying on a Cross and raising back to life again. God is so in love with you He gave Jesus to make a way for you to come back to Him.

But, in order for this to ever happen, you must do something which possibly is very hard for you, you must trust someone. You must trust Jesus! You must take Him at His word that He is the only Son of God and only Savior of the World, and that He alone can rescue you from your past disobedience, He alone can perfectly love you, and He alone can wrap you up perfectly in His loving arms and never let you go, keeping you secure forever. Trust Jesus! Please!

Hang on to this promise as found in Romans 5:8, “But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Don’t wait until you are perfect before you turn to and trust in Jesus for you will never be perfect. He came to each of us while we were still messed up and accepts us as we are and then, as we allow Him to do so, He patiently molds and shapes us into whom He created us to be. Run to Jesus now!”

How about you? Do you know you are loved? Do you know Jesus?
