Everybody loves a story where a local kid makes good and positively impacts the world. Well… we are going to be privileged to have the opportunity to hear from one of our own who has such a story. Hopester Andrew Gale, son of Mark and Roanne Gale (Roanne is one of our Children’s Pastors,) is now the Director of Global Strategy, the international arm of the Church of God (Anderson). Global Strategies partners with churches in 88 countries globally and Andrew oversees churches in 88 countries, 63 missionaries (in 24 different countries), 65 development projects (in 35 countries), and maintaining relationships with national leaders. Awesome!
Andrew will be our guest speaker in each of our services, next weekend, on Saturday and Sunday, February 17 & 18. He is a great communicator with lots of energy and great sense of humor. And then on Sunday afternoon at 4:00 in our Student Center he will be back for what I’m calling a “Conversation with Andrew” so he can share with us a few of his exciting stories of the many good things he is hearing, seeing, and experiencing in his world travels in regards to how many are being drawn to Jesus. During this time you will be free to ask him any questions. This will be a great and encouraging time together, which will be, kept to one hour, there will be desserts, and childcare provided for second grade and under.
I really hope you will take advantage of this great opportunity for this special Mission Weekend. But, I realize the fact is, some of you will read “Mission Weekend” and start making plans not to attend. Please refrain from doing so! This is important stuff! And please know we are not going to be asking you for extra money or twist your arm to go to the mission field in Afghanistan.
Missions matters! In fact a strong mission ministry has been part of our DNA from the very beginning. By God’s grace, almost 30 years ago, we were able to partner with very impactful and fruitful ministries and leaders around the world. Also many Hopesters have travelled the globe to learn about and share the Good News of Jesus. In fact, right now, did you now we support on a regular basis 17 missionaries in such places as Kansas, Albania, Belize, China, Ghana, India, Lebanon, Peru, Romania, and also other special projects such as in Cuba? Because of this support, which includes 7% of all our general giving, it is not a stretch to say millions have been impacted with the Good News of Jesus! Yay! God!
Missions matters! Jesus made this very, very clear and has given us strong mandates and marching orders. Missions is to be a key aspect of who we are as Followers of Jesus and His Church. Such as in Acts 1:8 Jesus said, “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” Why are we given power? Also in Psalm 67:1-2, 1 “May God be gracious to us and bless us and make his face shine on us— 2 so that your ways may be known on earth, your salvation among all nations.” Why are we blessed?
Please also know that I have been approved by our Leadership Team to be the Mission Shepherd, which means, I am now charged to lead our amazing Mission: Out Word FocUs Team at Hope. Big sandals to fill indeed! You will be hearing much more. See you this weekend.
