You Matter

Jim Cummins, who is one of Co-Founders of the Dirty Kanza 200, in a mandatory Pre-Race Meeting made a statement I found very encouraging and true. He said something along the lines of, “This race is not just about the tip of the spear.” By this he meant the DK 200 was not about just the world renowned athletes who were participating and those who would finish first. Rather, this was an event in which each person who rode was important. After all, each person was riding to test themselves and for their own personal goals and reasons.

I found delight in his philosophy for in fact – the truth is – every person you will ever meet in this journey of life is of unspeakable worth. Each person has been handcrafted and created in the image of God who has demonstrated His immeasurable and perfect love for each one of us, even when, we were still far from and rebelling against Him. But yet, even so, He still gave His one and only Son, Jesus, so that we might have the possibility to be brought back into a perfect and forever relationship Him! Into an existence of perfect relationship and love, where and when we will find ourselves finally, fully, and forever at Home with Him.  All people matter! You matter!

As the local church – local Followers of Jesus – who have decided to gather together to worship and expand the Kingdom of God, we also need to always make very sure this truth is lived out among us.  All people matter!  You matter!  Jesus is the One and Only who put the exclamation points in these statements and the One and Only who proved it to be true beyond any rational doubt.

In the context of the local Body of Believers the Apostle Paul expressed it this way in I Corinthians 12:12-14; 18; 27, 12 “Just as a body, though one, has many parts, but all its many parts form one body, so it is with Christ. 13 For we were all baptized by one Spirit so as to form one body—whether Jews or Gentiles, slave or free—and we were all given the one Spirit to drink. 14 Even so the body is not made up of one part but of many.” — 18 “But in fact God has placed the parts in the body, every one of them, just as he wanted them to be. 19 If they were all one part, where would the body be? 20 As it is, there are many parts, but one body.”  27 “Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it.” All people matter! You matter!

Regardless of whether a truth is made at the beginning of the World’s Premier Gravel Grinder on the stage of the historic Granada Theatre in Emporia, Kansas or by the Apostle Paul as recorded in the Bible, Truth is Truth, wherever it is found.  All truth is the Father’s truth.

Imagine that a rare, very beautiful, and desirable gemstone was discovered, and it was deduced that in all the cosmos it only existed, originated, and came from one place. It only had one source in all of creation. If this were true, then wherever you might come across this gemstone, regardless of where it was found, you would know it came from the same source. Therefore, whether it was set on a ring worn by a terrorist or on the ring of a Bishop or if it was made into a necklace worn by a prostitute or part of a bracelet of a bride in pure white… regardless of where it was seen, it would still have the same source.

Truth is Truth wherever it is found because there is only one source of Truth in creation. God… Father, Son, and Holy Spirit… is Truth!

  • “Jesus answered, ‘I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.’” John 14:6
  • “When the Advocate comes, whom I will send to you from the Father—the Spirit of truth who goes out from the Father—he will testify about me.” John 15:26
  • “We know also that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding, so that we may know him who is true. And we are in him who is true by being in his Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and eternal life.” 1 John 5:20
